Buckland, Rev. William Geology and Mineralogy Considered with Reference to Natural Theology (Bridgewater Treatise) London William Pickering 1837 Half-Leather Very Good No Jacket The Rev. William Buckland, a 19th century naturalist, theistic evolutionist, and Anglican divine, muses on the relationship of geology, mineralogy, and paleontology to the Bible and theology. One of the Bridgewater Treatises, commissioned by the Earl of Bridgewater to explore the evidence of Divine agency in the world and the universe. Beautifully bound in gilt half-calf over marbled boards, with marbled edges and endpapers. Volume II is profusely illustrated with full page and fold-out engravings, some hand-colored. Light rubs to the edges, with more pronounced rubbing to the boards. The center panel on the spine of Volume II has a spot or stain. Plate 26 in Volume II has a diagonal tear about 6 cm long from the spine down to the right, but is holding nicely. Both volumes have a previous owner's bookplate affixed to the inside of the front flyleaf. Binder's label of G. Simms, Manchester, affixed to front pastedown of Volume I. Price:
